often neglected and suffer needlessly when their parents are getting divorced, I decided a few years ago to adopt what Ann Landers, in her January 3, 1999 column, calls The Ten Rules for Putting Children First. These ten rules can be summarized to two basic principles:

(1)  we must be responsible for our own actions and decisions, and (2)  we cannot put the children in the middle.
